Mole & Skin Tag Removal The removal of unwanted moles and skin tags is
a simple and effective treatment. The shape, size and color of
the moles will help the doctor customize a personal treatment for
you.
Moles
Mole removal is considered for several reasons.
For someone who has to live with multiple moles, it could be a traumatizing
and stressful experience when the moles mark the physical appearance
of the person. As for another group of people whose moles have grown
malignant, ie the skin growth has turned cancerous; removal of the
growth is essential. Lastly, you may be contemplating removing the
moles because of the irritation and pain they can cause especially
when they develop under the skin folds.
Treatment Options Cauterization
Burning of moles using electric current.
Cyrotherapy
The medical term for freezing of the skin growth to facilitate its removal. Liquid nitrogen is applied to the metallic tool such as forceps to freeze the mole before it can be removed.
Excision
Utilizing scissors or scalpel, this is another mole removal method. Local anesthesia may be administered.
Q-Switched NdYAG; laser treatment
Your doctor or dermatologist may suggest using this
method to remove smaller moles. This treatment procedure is not
suitable for larger moles, as it cannot penetrate deep beneath the
skin surface.
Skin Tags
A skin tag is a small skin growth or tumor that
develops on normal skin. They are attached to the skin by thin tissues
called stalks or peduncles, and are normally a few millimeters in
thickness. They can have the same color as the surrounding skin
or be slightly pigmented. Skin tags are commonly found on the neck,
armpits, eye lids, under the breasts, groin or genital areas and
under skin folds where frequent abrasion takes place. Skin tags,
medically known as acrochordons are generally harmless and non malignant,
but like other skin abnormalities they could possibility become
cancerous. They would appear without noticeable symptoms as well.
Some people are more prone to suffer from skin tags. Older people
tend to have more skin tags when they progress in age. It is reported
that skin tags occurrence could be passed down from one generation
to another, ie hereditary.
Treatment Options There are several widely accepted methods of removing those skin tags, such as freezing the tag and stalk by cryotherapy, burning off the skin tags by a process called cauterization, or stopping the blood supply to each skin tag by binding the peduncle and letting them die off in weeks. The skin tags can also be surgically cut off with scissors or a scalpel at the physician’s clinic.
