Sun Damaged Skin Treatments

Sun damaged skin is the response of chronic exposure to the sun that alters the skin structure. The sun causes changes in both your upper layer and deeper layer of skin. The upper layer is known as the epidermis and the lower layer is the dermis. The upper layer of skin is meant to protect the deeper layer, however as you skin gets more exposed to sun, this protective layer becomes less effective and this results in a thin skinned look. This lack of protection allows the sun to cause changes in the dermis of the skin. These changes appear as “age spots, freckling, or rough skin” and they are often most prevalent on the face, neck, and hands. The sun also destroys collagen, and with this destruction, wrinkles form. Good sun protection is the best way to prevent these changes in the skin. We recommend always wearing a sunscreen with a minimum SPF15 rating. The changes that have already occurred can be treated with our latest laser skin treatments in combination with Medical Skin Care products.

Treatment Options

ProFractional Laser Treatment
ProFractional uses laser energy to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin, which are surrounded by areas of healthy, untreated skin. The zones of untreated skin invigorate the body’s natural healing process, and the treated areas stimulate production of new collagen, plumping up the skin and smoothing out wrinkles, lines, scars and other irregularities. Most skin areas can be treated. Popular areas are the face, neck, chest and hands.

IPL - Photrejuvenation
IPL - Intense Pulsed Light™ technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, such as facial skin imperfections, signs of photoaging, birthmarks, small veins, and other blemishes. IPL treatments can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and satisfaction. Depending on your skin condition you may need about 4-6 treatments, which will provide long-term results.

PDT-PhotoDynamic Therapy
PDT can be used in combination with Levulan (ALA), Blu-U and or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for the effective treatment of sun-damaged skin. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a special treatment performed with a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA) activated with the correct wavelength of light. This is also known as “ALA/PDT treatment”. These treatments remove sun-damaged pre-cancerous zones and spots called Actinic Keratoses. ALA/PDT treatment also has the unique ability to minimize pores and reduce oil glands, effectively treating stubborn acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, and it may improve the appearance of some acne scars.

Q-Switched NdYAG; Laser Treatment
The Q-Switched NdYAG; Laser treats the full range of benign pigmented lesions including freckles, age spots (lentigos), sun spots (solar lentigos), café au lait macules (birthmarks) seborrheic keratoses and hyperpigmentation. The laser delivers high intensity light in pulses of a few billionths of a second. The melanin in the lesion selectively absorbs the light. Lesions typically darken and are naturally removed from the skin.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a quick, safe and effective form of exfoliation for all skin types with no down time and virtually no discomfort. Laser-cut precision peel utilizes very powerful crystal free microdermabrasion system that gently exfoliates dead skin cells of the outermost layer (stratum cornium), resulting in a smoother skin surface. A series of treatments are recommended for best results.
